July 28th: WORLD HEPATITIS DAY

ELIMINATE HEPATITIS

World Hepatitis Day: TOWARD THE ELIMINATION OF VIRAL HEPATITIS !

In 2010, the World Health Assembly created the "World Hepatitis Day". Since then, every year on July 28,  World Hepatitis Day aims to improve awareness of viral hepatitis as a major public health problem, and to promote better preventive measures of this disease in the world.

"The World Hepatitis Day on 28 July 2017 is an opportunity to add momentum to all efforts to implement the WHO's first global health sector strategy on viral hepatitis for 2016-2021 and help Member States achieve the final goal - to eliminate hepatitis." (WHO website)

325 million people were living with chronic hepatitis infections worldwide in 2015 and 1.34 million people died of hepatitis in 2015 globally (WHO). However, on July 28th, the WHO released a new study showing that countries sharing 70% of the hepatitis burden in the world have made significant progress in developing effective campaigns of prevention, hence promoting a momentum for reducing the global hepatitis burden.
